Each of the seven husbands has a story that is most definitely fraught enough to encompass one hour-long episode on its own, making it pretty difficult to fit the entire plot of the book into one feature-length movie. Given the format of the novel, the adaptation actually lends itself pretty easily to a miniseries format, with each episode surrounding the story of each of Hugo’s seven husbands. ![]() ![]() Related: 10 Authors with the Most Book-to-Film Adaptations ![]()

It is a story of political brinksmanship but also an intimate domestic drama, set against the backdrop of Churchill's prime-ministerial country house, Chequers, and his wartime residence, Ditchley, where Churchill and his entourage go when the moon is brightest and the bombing threat is highest. It was up to Churchill to hold the country together and persuade President Franklin Roosevelt that Britain was a worthy ally-that she was willing to fight to the end. For the next twelve months, Hitler would wage a relentless bombing campaign, killing 45,000 Britons (30,000 of them Londoners) and destroying two million homes. To everyone’s surprise, Evelyn picks Monica Grant, an unknown reporter, to write her memoir. It is pretty easy to guess that her character is based on real-life Hollywood legend and serial marrier Elizabeth Taylor, with a dash of Rita Hayworth thrown in. At 79, Evelyn is known equally for her Oscar-winning career as for her seven marriages. The novel finds the eponymous character – an actress from Hollywood’s Golden Age – as an aging screen legend looking to release her first-ever autobiography. Still, Evelyn Hugo remains the brightest star among them all. Aside from the strong feminist undertone, all four novels offer an in-depth look into the cutthroat world of celebrities and the price of fame and are set in the same universe, with characters intersecting across books. Both novels feature a strong woman navigating celebrity culture throughout different points in history, a signature of Reid’s latter works (other entries being Malibu Rising and Carrie Soto is Back). Evelyn Hugo itself is primed for a Netflix adaptation, with Anya Taylor-Joy rumored to be in the lead. The same author would go on to release Daisy Jones and the Six, which is the basis for the ongoing Amazon Prime series of the same name. ![]() The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo is a 2017 novel by Taylor Jenkins Reid. ![]() ![]() 5/22/2023 0 Comments Shadow and ember![]() Why do we have to be all confusing?
